Climb the Koko Crater Railway Trail

One of the more unique hikes in Hawaii, the Koko Crater Trail features abandoned railway ties that lead to an incredible summit at 1,208 feet. Climb the 1,048 railway stairs straight up to the top of Koko Crater for a challenging, but rewarding experience atop the extinct cinder cone volcano where you'll be able to see some of the best views of Oahu, with panoramic scenes of Sandy Beach, Diamond Head, and Makapu'u lighthouse. Adjacent to Hanauma Bay and Nature Preserve, Koko Crater is just ten miles from Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort.

FAQ
The trail is only a mile long, but the stairs can be challenging, depending on your fitness ability. Most hikers summit Koko Crater within 30 minutes, but descending the trail may take longer depending on fatigue.
Hikers can park in the lot at Koko Head District Park for free and walk to the start of the trail, about five minutes from the parking lot.
